Why conventional EOR falls short

A significant portion of hydrocarbons remains unrecovered after primary and secondary recovery. As reservoirs mature, remaining hydrocarbons are increasingly confined to smaller pore spaces where capillary forces restrict flow. Conventional EOR methods struggle to access these zones, leaving recovery potential unrealized and production in decline.

How biosurfactants improve enhanced oil recovery

Biosurfactants operate at the nanoscale, forming ultra-small micelles (3–5 nm) that penetrate smaller pore spaces within the reservoir. By reducing interfacial tension and altering wettability at this scale, they mobilize trapped hydrocarbons and enable flow beyond the reach of conventional chemistry.
